Literary Contest is a juried writing contest for students in grades 5-12. Students may submit one entry in either the short story or poetry category. Each entry may include student-generated black-and-white artwork that corresponds with the written piece. For both categories, grade divisions for the competition are grades 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12. Awards are given to the top three entries in each category of each grade division. The CoSer for this program is 406.004.
The purpose of the Literary Contest is to recognize and reward excellence in student writing while allowing freedom of choice in style and subject matter. Awards are given to the winners either by their teacher or at their school's end-of-the-year award ceremony. All participants are recognized with certificates. An anthology of the winning entries is published and distributed to winners, their teachers, and other participating teachers.
